Travis Floyd Obituary, Death – A tragic car accident in Bloomington has claimed the life of a 22-year-old man who succumbed to his injuries several days after the crash. According to Bloomington Police, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, to the 1000 block of Hinshaw Avenue following reports of a serious vehicle accident. Firefighters from the Bloomington Fire Department also responded to the scene to assist with rescue efforts.

When first responders arrived, they found a heavily damaged vehicle that had struck a utility pole. Officers secured the area to allow paramedics and firefighters to safely provide aid to the injured. Due to the severity of the crash, authorities requested assistance from the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team to examine the circumstances in detail.

Inside the vehicle, multiple people were found injured. The front seat passenger, identified later as 22-year-old Travis Floyd of Bloomington, sustained critical injuries described as “potentially life-threatening.” He was rushed to Carle BroMenn Medical Center for emergency treatment. Other occupants of the car also suffered injuries, though police noted that their conditions were not considered life-threatening.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the car had been traveling north on Hinshaw Avenue when, for reasons that remain unclear, it veered off the roadway and slammed into a utility pole. The force of the impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle and inflicted severe trauma on Floyd, who was seated in the front passenger seat.

McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathleen Yoder later confirmed that Floyd died at Carle BroMenn Medical Center on Wednesday, September 24, at 9:24 a.m.—four days after the collision. A preliminary autopsy revealed that his death was caused by blunt force head injuries sustained during the crash. Officials emphasized that his injuries were consistent with the vehicle striking a fixed object at high impact.

Authorities have not yet released details about what may have led the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Investigators are continuing to look into possible contributing factors, including speed, road conditions, and driver impairment. The Bloomington Police Department, the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team, and the McLean County Coroner’s Office are all involved in the ongoing investigation.

As part of their efforts, police are encouraging anyone with knowledge of the crash to step forward.
