ORLANDO, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol has identified one of the two men killed in a violent, high-speed crash involving a Lamborghini Huracan as Kevin Soto, a 41-year-old resident of Windermere. The fatal wreck occurred in the early hours of Friday morning on State Road 528 in Orange County. Friends and loved ones are now mourning the loss of Kevin Soto, remembering him as a kind, thoughtful man whose life was cut tragically short.

The double-fatal collision shut down a major Central Florida artery for hours and serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of high-speed driving. The FHP is conducting a full investigation into the circumstances of the crash that killed Kevin Soto and the vehicle’s driver.

The High-Speed Collision That Killed Kevin Soto

The tragic incident unfolded at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, on the eastbound lanes of S.R. 528, also known as the Beachline Expressway, near Orangewood Boulevard. According to the official FHP report, a 2020 Lamborghini Huracan, driven by an unnamed 41-year-old man from Kissimmee, was traveling at a speed well above the posted limit.

Troopers determined that the high-performance supercar failed to slow down for a Ford F-550 truck that was traveling in the same direction. The front of the Lamborghini slammed into the rear of the truck with catastrophic force. The impact caused devastating damage to the Lamborghini.

Both the driver and his passenger, Kevin Soto, sustained critical injuries. Emergency responders rushed both men to Orlando Regional Medical Center, but they were later pronounced dead. The driver of the Ford F-550, a 58-year-old man from Altamonte Springs, was fortunately not injured in the collision. The FHP report noted that all three individuals involved were wearing their seat belts, a detail that underscores the extreme forces at play in the high-speed crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol Investigation

The FHP’s Traffic Homicide unit is leading the investigation into the wreck. While high speed has already been identified as a primary contributing factor, investigators will continue to piece together a complete picture of the events. This will include a full accident reconstruction to determine a more precise speed at the moment of impact, an analysis of the vehicle’s mechanics, and standard toxicology reports.

The crash prompted a full shutdown of all eastbound lanes of S.R. 528 for several hours on Friday morning, causing significant traffic delays as investigators documented the scene and crews worked to clear the extensive debris. The ongoing investigation into the crash that killed Kevin Soto will seek to provide a definitive account of the tragedy.

Remembering Kevin Soto: Tributes from Friends

While investigators work to understand the mechanics of the crash, friends and family are left to grapple with the human cost of the tragedy. The news of the death of Kevin Soto has been met with an outpouring of grief and cherished memories on social media. He is being remembered as a vibrant, kind, and thoughtful person who left a positive impact on those who knew him.

One particularly moving tribute came from a high school friend, Vanessa, who shared a recent memory that now feels especially poignant. She recalled how she and Kevin Soto had both been in Puerto Rico at the same time and tried to meet up, but their schedules never aligned. However, they had successfully reconnected while planning their high school reunion.

“I am happy we got to spend time planning our high school reunion and hanging out and catching up that night,” she wrote. “I remember you said to me, ‘You never changed, Vanessa,’ in the most endearing way and it meant a lot to me. You will truly be missed, Kevin Soto.”

This remembrance paints a picture of a man who valued his lifelong friendships and had a gift for making people feel special. It’s these personal connections that his loved ones will now hold onto as they mourn the loss of Kevin Soto.

The Dangers of Speed: A Painful Reminder

The crash that killed Kevin Soto is a heartbreaking and preventable tragedy that highlights the immense dangers of excessive speed, particularly in high-performance vehicles. The Lamborghini Huracan is capable of reaching speeds of over 200 mph, and at such velocities, the laws of physics are unforgiving. Reaction times are drastically reduced, and the energy released upon impact increases exponentially, often rendering safety features like seat belts and airbags insufficient to prevent fatal injuries. This incident serves as a painful reminder to the entire Central Florida community of the solemn responsibility that comes with operating any vehicle.
