The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Carranza’s death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the chest. Denton police confirmed that Carranza was a local resident.
Authorities have arrested two individuals in connection with the shooting. 26-year-old Alfred Lamont Jackson Jr. of Mississippi is accused of shooting Carranza, while his girlfriend, 24-year-old Olivia Guster, also of Mississippi, is alleged to have participated in the attack. Both remain in Denton County Jail, with Jackson’s bond set at $2.1 million and Guster’s at $1 million.
Police reported that at approximately 12:58 a.m., a 911 caller reported a fight in the parking lot at 321 Eagle Drive. While on the phone with dispatchers, the caller heard gunshots. Officers arriving on the scene found Carranza with a gunshot wound and transported him to Medical City Denton, where he was pronounced deceased at about 1:19 a.m.
Investigators allege that Jackson and Guster got into a dispute with Carranza and a friend over right-of-way in the parking lot. Jackson allegedly struck Carranza’s friend with a shovel, pointed a firearm at both individuals, and shot Carranza in the chest. Guster reportedly assaulted Carranza and his friend with her fists.
Police located the suspects’ vehicle in the 1400 block of West University Drive and conducted a traffic stop. Jackson briefly fled on foot but was apprehended, while Guster remained in the vehicle. Jackson faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, and evading arrest or detention, and Guster faces a murder charge.
The investigation remains ongoing.
