Morgan Wright Obituary, Death – Authorities in Lufkin have confirmed that a woman from Pollok lost her life after a two-vehicle crash in the city’s downtown area on Monday afternoon. The victim was identified as 40-year-old Morgan Wright. Police said Wright was taken to a local hospital following the collision but later died from her injuries. The tragic crash occurred around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Third and Frank Streets, an area that became the center of a chaotic police pursuit.

Wright, who lived in Pollok, was well known in the East Texas education community. Leverett’s Chapel ISD released a statement identifying her as the wife of Wells ISD Superintendent Friday Wright. She also worked as a speech pathologist at Lufkin ISD, where she had built close ties with students and colleagues. Her sudden passing has left the education community deeply saddened.

According to Lufkin Police, the chain of events that led to the fatal wreck began earlier in the day when Trinity County authorities reported a stolen truck possibly traveling near the Lufkin mall on South First Street. The truck was said to be in the possession of a 16-year-old driver.

Lufkin officers located the stolen vehicle at the mall and attempted to intervene. However, instead of stopping, the teenage driver fled, initiating a police pursuit. The chase moved from the mall northward into downtown Lufkin, where the situation took a deadly turn.

Police said the stolen truck headed into the heart of downtown before turning onto Third Street. At the intersection with Frank Street, the truck slammed into a Ford Explorer that was traveling westbound. Wright was inside that vehicle. The impact caused significant damage, and emergency responders quickly rushed to the scene.

Wright was transported to a hospital for treatment, but despite efforts by medical staff, she did not survive. Authorities confirmed her death later that day, marking a devastating end to what began as a police chase involving a stolen vehicle.

The 16-year-old driver of the stolen truck was also hospitalized following the crash but was later released. Lufkin Police have stated that charges are pending against the juvenile, though they have not provided details about the specific offenses that will be filed.

The crash has stirred grief and outrage throughout the community, especially as details emerged about Wright’s role as both an educator and the spouse of a school superintendent. Lufkin ISD acknowledged her loss with deep sadness, recognizing the impact she made on students through her work in speech pathology. Colleagues described her as compassionate, dedicated, and committed to helping children succeed.

For Wells ISD and Leverett’s Chapel ISD, the news also brought heartbreak. As the wife of Superintendent Friday Wright, Morgan was seen as a supportive presence in the school community. Both districts have extended condolences to the Wright family, while counseling resources are being offered to students and staff affected by the tragedy.

The incident has also raised broader concerns about vehicle thefts and police pursuits involving young drivers. Law enforcement officers stressed that the outcome highlights the dangers posed when unlicensed or underage individuals take control of stolen vehicles and attempt to flee police.

While the investigation remains active, officials said they are focused on gathering all evidence from the crash site, reviewing police reports, and preparing charges against the 16-year-old. The juvenile’s identity has not been released due to legal restrictions, but authorities indicated that accountability will be pursued through the justice system.

As the Wright family mourns the sudden loss of a wife, mother, and educator, the Lufkin community has rallied in support, expressing condolences and sharing memories of Morgan Wright’s kindness and dedication. Her passing serves as a tragic reminder of the unexpected consequences that can arise from reckless and unlawful actions on the road.
