The tragic accident occurred on Saturday, September 20, 2025, when the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a sequence of events at a busy intersection led to the fatalities.

According to CHP, the crash happened at approximately 11:44 a.m. on Famoso Road near Highway 65. Napoleon Grande was driving a 2016 Honda Fit eastbound on Famoso Road when he failed to stop at a clearly posted stop sign. By not stopping, his vehicle entered the intersection with Highway 65 directly into the path of an oncoming 2014 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by a 55-year-old man traveling southbound. The Freightliner struck the Honda on the driver’s side, sending the smaller vehicle careening out of control. The Honda eventually came to rest on the dirt shoulder on the east side of the roadway.

The collision also caused the tractor-trailer to lose control.
