Miss Universe Jamaica Finalist Tyra Spaulding

Tyra, just 26 years old, was reportedly found on Tuesday evening at her home, where authorities say she died by suspected suicide. According to police reports, she was discovered hanging from her bed frame with a pink curtain around her neck. Investigations into the tragic incident are ongoing.

The Miss Universe Jamaica Organisation expressed profound sorrow over the devastating loss, describing Tyra as much more than just a contestant. โ€œTyra was more than a contestant; she was a vibrant, intelligent and inspiring young woman whose grace and spirit touched everyone she met,โ€ the organisation said in a heartfelt statement.

They extended their deepest condolences to Tyraโ€™s family, friends, and all who loved her, on behalf of reigning Miss Universe Jamaica, Dr. Gabrielle Henry, and National Directors Mark McDermoth and Karl Williams. โ€œOur thoughts and prayers are with them as we remember and honour her remarkable life and legacy. May she rest in eternal peace.โ€

Tyraโ€™s passing has left a deep void not only in the Miss Universe Jamaica family but also across the country, where she was admired for her beauty, intelligence, and compassion. Outside of the pageant world, Tyra worked as an accountant, a career in which she excelled due to her sharp intellect and strong work ethic.

Yet, she was more than her professionโ€”she was known by those closest to her as a kind-hearted, thoughtful young woman with a contagious smile and an unwavering commitment to uplifting those around her.

What made Tyra truly remarkable was her dedication to mental health awareness and suicide prevention, causes that were deeply personal to her. She used her platform to speak openly about mental wellness, encouraging others to seek help and break the stigma associated with mental health struggles. Friends and colleagues remember her as someone who genuinely cared about others and went out of her way to make people feel seen, valued, and supported.

Her death is a painful reminder of the silent battles many face behind closed doors. Despite her outward success and vibrant personality, Tyraโ€™s tragic passing underscores the importance of mental health advocacy and the need for continued conversations about emotional well-being.

As Jamaica grieves the loss of such a promising and compassionate young woman, the Miss Universe Jamaica community is committed to honouring Tyraโ€™s legacy by continuing the work she cared about so deeplyโ€”raising awareness about mental health and providing support for those who need it most.
